Founders Brewing Co.
Grand Rapids, MI
Style: Brown Ale
Furniture City Stock Ale is a limited release by the spectacularly expanding
Founders Brewing in Grand Rapids. It’s part of a celebration of Grand Rapids
brewing history that coincides with the “Beer City, USA” title and the “Thank
You, Beer!” exhibit that recently wrapped up at the Grand Rapids Public Museum.
Pouring ruby brown, it has a beautiful rich head that stays firm on top of the
brew throughout. The nose is malty and sweet with notes of molasses and brown
sugar, yet pleasingly balanced with a full, hoppy bite and long lingering hop
finish. Tremendously balanced, I’ve admittedly stocked up a bit on this one –
even cellaring a bottle to see how it holds up – as I have hopes for this to be
an annual release and is quickly found itself ranked among some of my favorite
pours from Founders.
