Light beer was “invented” it the 1970’s, as the first commercially successful brands survived in the market, Miller Lite, based upon previous versions of “diet beer.” Josseph Owades, who was a key player at the time, passed away in 2005. He also had a hand in some of the early commercially successful craft beers as well.

Obviously, we’re not huge fans of “lite” beer around here, but kudos to them for at least creating one of the greatest commercial beer campaigns of all time:
