Style: Weizen Bock
I’ve long been a big Unertl fan, as I noted in my review of their Original Weissbier. Now that their Weissbier Bock is available in the States, I was eager to give it a try and see how it compared to my recollection as it had been several years since I’d tried it.
It pours an amber ruby brown, with a head consisting of large bubble that is somewhat thinner than the Original. The nose is a malty sweet porridge of caramel, molasses and brown sugar with large CO2 bubbles and an even, balanced finish. It’s very nice, and I suspect will find some big fans in the U.S. who are looking for a more potent brew. I, however, didn’t find it nearly as rounded or complex as their Weissbier.
Nonetheless, it’s very good and beats the pants off nearly any weizenbock made in the States.
